body mass index
A measure of body weight relative to height (kg/m²).
Overview
Body mass index divides weight in kilograms by the square of height in metres. It is a quick, widely used screening measure of whether weight is low, typical or high for a given height.
BMI does not distinguish fat from muscle, so it is a rough indicator rather than a diagnosis.
